Half Term Taster classes

Dance Trapeze

Monday 23 October 5.30pm – 7pm

Dance trapeze or single-point trapeze is a sub-category of static trapeze which is hung from one point making the ropes form a V. Dance trapeze has a stronger focus on artistic choreography and contemporary dance in contrast to static trapeze where the emphasis is put on impressive acrobatic tricks.

The Aerial Rope, also known as Corde Lisse, involves learning a variety of climbing techniques, basic wraps, locks and drops. Aerial Rope can look intimidating to beginners but is a versatile, beautiful piece of equipment to train on – it’s great for building strength and confidence quickly.

Silks, also known as tissu, are two pieces of fabric hung from a single point. Silks can be the most elegant aerial disciplines, creating dynamic shapes and balances as well as the fun of swinging, spinning and rolling! Students will learn basic climbing and wrapping techniques as well as daring drops.

Open to all abilities, including complete beginners. Our experienced tutors can work to the level of all those in the group.
Students should wear comfortable clothing which covers most of their skin to avoid injury.

Aerial Hoop

Tuesday 24 October 6pm – 7.30pm

Doubles Aerial

Wednesday 25 October
6pm – 7.30pm

An introduction to partnership aerial work in which two people learn to use each other for stability and strength. Through dynamic lifts and holds, balances and counterweighting they will learn a variety of aerial tricks on the static trapeze. Elements of communication and trust will come into play as you learn to work as a team.

Students should have done at least one term of aerial (any discipline) before and be able to get up to standing on a trapeze and go upside down by themselves, and do basic tricks such as birds nest.

Open Training

Wednesday 25 October and Friday 27 October
6pm – 9pm

The perfect place to practice what you’ve learnt so far and share your skills with other students. Join other professionals and enthusiasts for a sociable and relaxed self-guided training session.

You will have open access to floor space and aerial equipment.

Introduction to Aerial

Learn the basic principles behind aerial disciplines and build up your confidence in a class with other total beginners. The course will introduce you to a number of apparatus including: trapeze, hoop, rope and cloud swing. Giving you a strong foundation for progressing in any aerial discipline.

This is a great way to try out a mix of aerial disciplines to see which suits you best!

You should wear soft, comfortable clothing that fully covers your arms and legs.

Aerial Rope and Static Cloud

The Aerial Rope, also known as Corde Lisse involves learning a variety of climbing techniques, basic wraps, locks and drops. Aerial Rope can look intimidating to beginners but is a versatile, beautiful piece of equipment to train on – it’s great for building strength and confidence quickly.

Aerial Ropes are soft and easy to climb and comfortable to wrap yourself in, they are nothing like the ropes you’ve seen at school gyms.

Beginners Aerial Rope is suitable for those with only a little experience or those with experience of silks looking to try something new.

Static Cloud is essentially a Rope rigged from two points instead of one. It resembles a rope swing but the work is static and involves learning similar rope techniques rolling, locking and wrapping parts of the body on the rope to achieve drops, rolls and slides etc. Great to compliment Rope work, a little easier as there is a rest position in sitting, a great tool to learn the wraps and locks in a more comfortable way.

Students should wear comfortable clothing which covers most of their skin to avoid injury.

Aerial Silks

Aerial Silks, also known as Tissu, are a beautiful pair of silks suspended from the ceiling, which allows the participant to climb, perform beautiful wraps and drop gracefully

7 week course

Beginner class: Tuesdays 31 Oct, 7, 14, 21, 28 Nov, 5, 12 Dec, 5.45pm- 7.15pm
Suitable for those who have just a little bit of experience. Become comfortable with climbing. Learn to do a foot lock, hip lock, inverted straddle hold, and we’ll introduce you to catchers.

Intermediate class: Tuesdays 31 Oct, 7, 14, 21, 28 Nov, 5, 12 Dec, 7.30pm – 9.00pm
You’ll continue to work on and improve skills learnt at beginner level, but intermediates will also build on catchers, catcher slides, and will be introduced to drops.

Advanced class: Mondays 30 Oct, 6, 13, 20, 27 Nov, 4, 11 Dec, 7.30pm – 9.00pm
At advanced level, you’re ready to start developing tricks into routines. You’ll work on developing sequences and extending your repertoire.

Static Trapeze

Static Trapeze does not involve swinging and jumping from the trapeze. Instead participants learn to perform moves under the bar, over the bar and in the ropes to develop an impressive and graceful routine.

Beginners Static Trapeze is suitable for those with just a little bit of experience and those who have not trained for a while and are looking to regain confidence on the equipment.

We will cover moves such as Straddle, Pike, Mermaid, Amazon and Birds Nest, as well as working on front and back balances.

Handstands

One of the basic but most important skills in circus which teaches body awareness, alignment, balance and helps build core strength. Learning handstands will provide students with a solid foundation and understanding of acrobatic techniques. Poise and strength gained from this basic skill is used throughout all other floor and aerial disciplines.

Acrobatics and Acro Conditioning

Learn tumbling and gymnastic movements, building your strength and control. This is done without a partner, working on the floor. The students will also have the opportunity to work on the air track and trampoline to improve their coordination and spatial awareness and to enable them to work on progressing through the acrobatic techniques in a safe controlled way.

Partner Acrobatics

Learn the art of climbing, balancing, standing on and physically supporting each other.  A fun class building on the foundations of acrobatic positions and body work but working in pairs and groups instead of solo.

This course covers a variety of partner and group acrobatic disciplines including acrobalance, hand to hand, pyramids, tossing and pitching. Build strength, co-ordination, timing and most of all co-operation and trust as you work together to create static and dynamic acrobatic forms.

Chinese Pole

Chinese pole is the art of climbing and descending acrobatically from a 5 meter pole, twisting twirling and jumping around the pole.

The pole is covered in rubber, so participants are advised to wear stretchy jeans/trousers or thick leggings, a long-sleeved top and soft shoes with grip, e.g. trainers.
